Mrs. Ruth Searcy Helton, 95, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2020. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, nurse, and devout Christian. 

An identical twin, she was born Nov. 12, 1924, to the late Alvin Edgar and Mamie Griffin Searcy at home in Cherry Log.

She attended school in a cozy, one-room schoolhouse in Cherry Log. Her life was well-lived. She touched the hearts of others in a powerful and wonderful enough way that her love, compassion and goodness will be passed down generation after generation. 

She is preceded in death by brothers, Jerry Searcy, Jack Searcy and David Searcy; sisters, Katherine Logan, Ruby Hale and Jean Towe. 

She is survived by son, Michael J. Helton and wife, Ann A. Helton, of Blue Ridge; grandson, Brandon J. Helton, of Blue Ridge; granddaughter, Sarah H. Kendall, of Canton; great-grandson, Tristian Kendall, of
Canton; great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Coleman, of Canton; brothers, Jim and Anne Searcy, of Morganton, Bill and Kathy Searcy, of Marietta; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Searcy, of Cherry Log; and several nephews, nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at the Cherry Log Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Kenny Hagin officiating.
