Cheryl Chancey Smith

Mrs. Cheryl Chancey Smith, 70, of Ellijay, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

She was born Oct. 18, 1952, in Blue Ridge, to the late Ralph Chancey and Irene Holloway Chancey. She was the valedictorian at Gilmer High School, class of 1970. She worked in the school system, including Ellijay Primary, for many years.

She was also a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and loved the Lord, her children and her grandchildren.

She is survived by husband, Jerry Smith; sons, Jeremy Smith (Brianne) and Jamie Smith (Georgia); daughter, Jenni Sellers (Jeremy); brothers, Gerald Chancey and Johnny Chancey; sisters, Dianne Holt and Melanie Cantrell; and grandchildren, Garrett (Kaylin) Sellers, Bryson (Sadie) Smith, Taylor Sellers, Lauren Smith, Addison Smith and Pete Smith.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, from Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Chastain and the Rev. Casey Davis officiating.

Interment was in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Garrett Sellers, Bryson Smith, Chad Miller, Kevin Holt, Frank McClure and Michael Cantrell.
