Graduating seniors receive art scholarships
Graduating Gilmer High School seniors Taylor Frady, left, and Alex Miller, right, accept $1,000 scholarship checks from Gilmer Arts President John Rathbone at an award ceremony Friday, May 6. Frady plans to pursue a musical theatre major at Columbus State University, while Miller will head to the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega for an art direction or management degree. Both local nonprofit Faith, Hope and Charity, Inc., and the George Link Jr. Charitable Trust contributed to the Gilmer Arts scholarship fund. Rathbone said the two students received their awards in the categories of performing and visual arts, but there were no submissions for the literary arts category. “We had another $1,000 scholarship available. We hope to have submissions for all three categories next year,” he added.
