While the Gilmer High School golf season ended four weeks ago at the Region 7-4A tournament, senior Bobcat Drew Parks trudged ahead.
His 78 at the event held at Dalton Country Club not only qualified him for the Class 4A state meet, but allowed him to bypass sectionals.
Dalton C.C. also hosted state and Parks battled soggy playing conditions and shot an 86, which ranked fifth among players who received an individual berth.
His practice round the day before the event was muddled by thunderstorms.
Marist dominated the team competition with a four-man score of 279. Freshman Will Chandler led the War Eagles and was the event’s low medalist with a 6-under par 66.
Parks was named GHS’ MVP at the team’s annual banquet and will play college golf at Point University.
