NOTICE OF LOCATION AND DESIGN APPROVAL

Notice is hereby given in compliance with Georgia Code 22-2-109 and 32-3-5 that the Georgia Department of Transportation has approved the Location and Design of this project.
The date of location and design approval is: April 6, 2017
This project proposes to extend SR 382 to SR 515 on new location for 0.35 mile. The proposed SR 382 would begin on new location just west of SR 5. A roundabout would be installed where the new roadway crosses SR 5, just south of the existing intersection of SR 382 and SR 5, and the new roadway would then extend in an easterly direction until it connects to SR 515. The SR 382 remnant would become a cul-de-sac. The typical section would consist of two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot shoulders. There would also be two 6.5-foot paved bike lanes designed within the 10-foot shoulders to accommodate bike traffic. The total project length is approximately 0.6 mile.
At the intersection of SR 382 and SR 515, the project proposes the installation of either a conventional stop-controlled intersection or a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) intersection, also known as a J-Turn or superstreet intersection. The RCUT intersection differs from a conventional intersection by eliminating the left-turn and through movements from cross street approaches. The RCUT intersection requires drivers to turn right onto the main road and then make a U-turn maneuver at a one-way median opening approximately 400 feet away from the intersection. At the main street approaches, the left turns are typically accommodated similar to left turns at conventional intersections. RCUT intersections provide major advantages, including reduced delay and congestion for through traffic on the major road and reduced opportunities for crashes compared to conventional design.
